30 Milestones in Black Legal History in Nevada
The month of February, Black History Month is always a good time to pause and look at progress built through perseverance, civic effort, and the law.
In the state of Nevada, a lot of that progress first showed up through the law and in the legal field. This includes court rulings, new laws, the fight for equal rights and of course, new firsts.
As the legal system evolved, access to Black individuals slowly expanded. New voices entered the profession, and opportunities grew within courts, agencies, and law offices.
Our Own Nevada Black Legal Historical Milestone
We are pleased to announce that we added our own milestone to Nevada’s Black legal history.
In 2023, when founder of Winder Law Firm, Attorney Aaron A. Winder was admitted to the Nevada bar, another milestone took place.
Aaron’s father, Dan M. Winder is also an attorney in Nevada. So this event marked the first known African-American father-son duo simultaneously admitted to the Nevada State Bar.

Why These Milestones Matter
Legal milestones show who had access and when. They also show when trust in courts and public systems began to grow. In Nevada, progress came through laws, cases, and public action.
Change did not arrive all at once. It moved step by step through court rulings and new statutes. Attorneys, judges, and lawmakers each played a part.
Nevada’s experience reflects a wider American story. Progress came through the legal process, shaped over time.

The admission of Aaron A. Winder and Dan M. Winder to the Nevada State Bar reflects generational growth within the legal field. It also highlights the role of guidance, access, and steady opportunity.

Honoring Progress, Looking Forward
Nevada’s legal system has changed in clear ways over time. Each step forward has made room for the next.
That progress benefits the public and the profession alike. It reinforces fairness, responsibility, and respect for the law.
The path forward exists because of those who came before. Their contributions matter.
